The Team at Shillingford Organics

Welcome to our team page. Below you will find out a little about the staff at Shillingford Organics who all work so hard to bring you fresh, seasonal, organic vegetables.

~ nothing great in this world has been achieved without passion ~

Martyn Bragg

Martyn has been farming at The Barton since 1988. He is committed to supplying local people with local produce that has been grown in an environmentally friendly and sustainable manner.

He has been running the box scheme for several years and as the Proprietor oversees the business as a whole.

Tim Deane

Box schemes as we know them today, where farmers and growers have made it their business to sell their produce directly, and often solely, to local residents, began in earnest in 1991 with Devon organic vegetable growers and box scheme pioneers Tim and Jan Deane. Their box scheme Northwood was the forerunner for Shillingford Organics.

Mike Radford

Mike Radford

Mike is a long-standing (although he has been known to sit down) worker at The Barton. His services are most commonly employed on the agricultural side of the farm; ploughing, harvesting and other big tasks but he does also drive some of the planting machinery for the box scheme crops.

His services are often utilised by other farmers in the area.

Bridget Rendall

Bridget joined Shillingford Organics in August 2006 to take over the box scheme administration and also to assist Martyn with other administrational duties.

Bridget is the main contact for all box scheme correspondence. She will work hard to ensure everything runs smoothly at Shillingford Organics.

Irma Brazauskaite

Irma joined Shillingford Organics in 2006 helping with planting, weeding and harvesting. She progressed to Packhouse Manager until the birth of her son. She has now returned on a part-time basis and along with her usual duties she does an amazing job cleaning the building in preparation for conferences.

She is conscientious and very thorough in her work.

Thomas Lowday (Tom)

Tom worked for us for sometime and then left to explore a part of the world before returning to work part time at Shillingford. Tom helps to run our ever popular Exeter Market Stall each Thursday, along with Chris White.

Sharon Matthias (nee Bickley)

Sharon works alongside Martin Godfrey as a part-time grower, having joined Shillingford Organics in March 2005, seeking a more rewarding lifestyle than office work. She is the main member of staff organising the crop plans for our salad leaves and works hard to keep them coming all year round.

Sharon is very passionate about the work she does and the proof of the planting is in the vegetables and salad!

Martin Godfrey

After working for 20 years milking cows on a Devon farm, Martin joined Shillingford Organics in March 2005 as a part-time grower, alongside Sharon. He is a keen gardener and has his own vegetable patch and flower garden at The Barton.

Martin like Sharon is very passionate about his work. Martin enjoys working in the outdoors with nature, he also likes to work with like-minded people.

Martin Edworthy (Wolfie)

Martin (Wolfie) joined Shillingford Organics in 2009 but later that year he left to continue with his previous job. We were all very pleased when a few months ago he decided to return to Shillingford as he was always a very popular member of the team. He is extremely hardworking and likes to get the job done.

Wolfie has an infectious personality, and can take some credit for helping to ensure the team is focused, hardworking and happy.

Iain Jamieson

Iain joined Shillingford in April 2008 and helps with the box scheme picking and packing. He has a lot of interest in the organic ethos and contributes many good ideas.

Sometimes you can find Iain under the biggest hat I have ever seen, especially when it is sunny and this year it has been exceptional!

Jamie Goddard

Jamie joined us in May 2009 as a Packhouse Operator / Field Worker. He is coming to grips with his new role and is steadily organising the packhouse in order to achieve maximum efficiency.

Jamie liaises with Bridget to ensure orders are met. He also harvests crops for Wholesale orders and our Organic Vegetable Box Scheme.

Clare Sercombe

Clare joined Shillingford Organics in 2010 working part time to help with; planting, harvesting, weeding and packing the weekly boxes. She is very hard-working and likes to complete a job.

Clare has a great sense of humour and has fitted in extremely well with the team here at Shillingford Organics.

Chris White

Chris took over from Polly at the Exeter Market in April 2010, he is very passionate about the market and works extremely hard to make it a success by setting himself targets.

Chris has had some excellent ideas about the market and many of these ideas will soon be put into action. Chris is very passionate about our produce, why not pop along to the Exeter Farmer's Market on a Thursday and say hello, he would love that!

Tilly

Tilly is the resident farm dog at The Barton. She was adopted in June 2005 and loves getting attention from anyone and everyone.

When not fussing, Tilly can be found lying in the sun, rolling in the mud or riding in one of the farm tractors. She loves to be near anyone who has food!!
