6. Crop & Other News
I always think of November as the wettest month of the year and it has certainly started that way. Fortunately, October was dry and we harvested all the potatoes easily and what an incredible crop, with several tubers over 1Kg in weight.  We store most of the potatoes in a commercial cold store at Pocombe Bridge until the New Year.

We have also harvested all our squash and these are stored in a dry place on the farm. Squash storage can be depressing in that unless you have a super duper, temperature, and humidity controlled store, inevitably several are lost. In fact they store as well as anywhere in a dry room in the house.

The exceptionally mild October has meant we have been able to harvest salad crops from outdoors through October. Now we are harvesting lettuce and salad from the tunnels.  My only concern is that although the crop looks fantastic it is possibly too far advanced, meaning we have an abundance now, but may well run short later in the year.
