The Team

Welcome to our team page. Below you will find out a little about the staff at Shillingford Organics who all work so hard to bring you fresh, organic vegetables.

~ nothing great in this world has been achieved without passion ~

Martyn Bragg

Martyn has been farming at The Barton since 1988. He is committed to supplying local people with local produce that has been grown in an environmentally friendly and sustainable manner. He has been running the box scheme for several years and oversees the business as a whole.

Tim Deane

Founder of Northwood Boxes, the forerunner to Shillingford Organics, Tim has been farming organically at Northwood Farm in Christow since 1990. Northwood produce still makes up a percentage of the box contents throughout the year, including aubergines, tomatoes and artichokes.

Mike Radford

Mike Radford

Mike is a long-standing (although he has been known to sit down) worker at The Barton. His services are most commonly employed on the agricultural side of the farm; ploughing, harvesting and other big tasks but he does also drive some of the planting machinery for the box scheme crops. His services are often utilised by other farmers in the area.

Bridget Rendall

Bridget with Hilary

Bridget joined Shillingford Organics in August 2006 to take over the box scheme administration and also to assist Martyn with other administrational duties. Bridget is the main contact for all box scheme correspondence. She will work hard to ensure everything runs smoothly at Shillingford Organics.

Irma Brazauskaite

Irma does a fantastic job in keeping the packhouse running smoothly. Her role is crucial to the success of the Shillingford Organics Vegetable Box Scheme. She liaises with the Admin Office on a daily basis. Irma is also responsible for organising the harvesting and packing for all our wholesale customers. Irma is currently on maternity leave after giving birth to a beautiful baby boy and may return to work later next year. Many congratulatons Irma & Vitalis.

Vitalis Vasiliauskas

Vitalis carries out many jobs around the farm including; planting, harvesting, agricultural work, painting, DIY as well as delivering the boxes to customers. Vitalis loves to tinker around with engines too. He is extremely hard working and very strong. Congratulations to Vitalis & Irma on the safe arrival of their son Grantas and their recent engagement.

Sharon Matthias (nee Bickley)

Sharon works alongside Martin Godfrey as a part-time grower, having joined Shillingford Organics in March 2005, seeking a more rewarding lifestyle than office work. Sharon is very passionate about the work she does and the proof of the planting is in the vegetables. Sharon went on maternity last year and gave birth to a beautiful daughter (well done Sharon & Mike) and has now returned to continue her work on the farm. During her leave Sharon & Mike got married, congratulations to you both.

Martin Godfrey

After working for 20 years milking cows on a Devon farm, Martin joined Shillingford Organics in March 2005 as a part-time grower, alongside Sharon Bickley. He is a keen gardener and has his own vegetable patch and flower garden at The Barton. Martin like Sharon is very passionate about his work. Martin enjoys working in the outdoors with nature and inspired our strapline 'in tune with nature'. He also likes to work with like-minded people.

Pete Spooner

Pete joined the team in July 2006 as driver on the Friday delivery rounds in Exeter and the Teign Valley areas. He also helps out with packing the boxes berfore loading them onto the van. Pete is very conscientious and will do all he can to ensure the best customer service is given at all times.

Tom Lowday

Tom joined Shillingford Organics in February 2008 to gain experience and knowledge for his studies at Bicton Environmental Studies and to help fund his course. Tom is a hard worker and motivates others to work well together. He has a terrific sense of humour and is very good company.

Tom says ..."if the tomatoes go missing in the poly-tunnel, it wasn't me!"

Tom is now running a stall for Shillingford Organics at the Exeter Farmer's Market every Thursday and is doing a sterling job. Well done Tom. Polly Atterbury will be taking over the Market Stall from Tom in March 2010 as he is off to visit and work in other countries, be safe Tom and have fun.

Iain Jamieson & Al Bryer

Iain & Al work part time at Shillingford Organics. Al (right) is showing off the striking pheasant plummage, Iain on the otherhand has four fingers, a thumb and a hen!!

Iain helps with the box scheme picking and packing on Thursdays. Al works alongside Martin to keep the weeds under control and to carry out other general crop maintenance.

Al Bryer and his partner Lucy have just had a baby boy, many congratulations to you both.

Polly Atterbury

Polly joined Shillingford Organics in 2009 to work on the Love Local Food Van serving customers in the Exeter area. She now works in the Packhouse one day a week and will be taking over from Tom Lowday running the stall at the Exeter Market each Thursday. Polly is simply lovely and if you meet her she will always be cheery and chatty. Great having you on board Polly.

Jamie Goddard

Jamie joined us in May 2009 as a Packhouse Operator / Field Worker. We have yet to catch him on camera! Jamie is coming to grips with his new, extremely important role and is steadily organising the packhouse in order to achieve maximum efficiency. Jamie works closely with Bridget to ensure orders are met.

Tilly

Tilly is the resident farm dog at The Barton. She was adopted in June 2005 and loves getting attention from anyone and everyone. When not fussing, Tilly can be found lying in the sun, rolling in the mud or riding in one of the farm tractors. She has been known to sneak into the staff room and snuggle up on our lovely sofa, not funny when she inevitably manages to do this after having rolled about in the mud !!
